NEW Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

A little over a year ago I saw Yeasayer open for The National in Central Park. I had already been a big fan of their debut album All Hour Cymbals so I obviously enjoyed their set which included a couple of new songs, "Ambling Alp" being one of them. It's without a doubt the popiest thing the band has produced thus far and boy, is it catchy. Like most of their tracks, it starts out with some Animal Collective-esque psychadelia via manipulated field recordings and then erupts into a percussive pysch-pop jam. A bit of a left turn from their past material but its a fantastic song nonetheless.

Wolf Gang-The King And All Of His Men

Max McElligott, the face behind British pop band Wolf Gang, learns from the best and drops out of school.  Mick Jagger left the London School of Economics after one year, and we all know how well that turned out for him. So when Max McElligott decided to become a full time musician while attending The London School of Economics, it was only natural to follow in Micks footsteps and drop out. Not that I am comparing the Stones to Wolf Gang, but Mr. Elligott shows some potential. Just some decent pop music from across the pond.

Lil Wayne-Playing With Fire

Weezy F. is heading to prison. Charged with illegal gun possession in 2007, Wayne pleaded guilty today and is expected to spend a year in jail. Not to long ago Mr. Carter had another legal battle with the Rolling Stones legal team. This time it was over the similarity of Wayne's song Playing With Fire and the Stones song Play With Fire. Wayne agreed remove the song from the final version of Tha Carter III and settled for a undisclosed amount with Abkco (the publisher who owns the rights to the Rolling Stones song). It was one of the strongest tracks on Tha Carter III and I really liked it. Weezy just can't catch a break in court.

Remembering Elliot Smith

Six years ago, on October 21st, 2003, the world lost the great musician Elliott Smith. There hasn't been anyone else quite like him, and he is sorely missed.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs-Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

DJ A-Trak, one of the hardest working guys around, takes on YYY's "Heads Will Roll" and commits homicide on it. The remix is relatively new but people are eating this up (and rightfully so, this song is a rager that could make anyone bust a move) and it only further establishes the fact that A-Trak has the Midas touch on remixes.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs-Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

Saw him in 2008 at summer stage when he randomly did a set after born ruffians and before kid sister and vampire weekend went on. It was pissing outside and the orange brown tinged water was over your ankles. He wasn't on the set list that day but kid sister (his girlfriend then) had some trouble setting up in the rain. After waiting a ridiculous amount of time for kid sister he got on stage and saved the day. He rocked the damn house down and ended with his remix of Kanye's stronger. Epic.

Chains and Black Exhaust Compilation Tape

Been away from posting for a few days but, here is a compilation that took me forever to find. I could try and give you some insight into "Chains and Black Exhaust" but it wouldn't compare to Pitchfork's review of it (which gave it a nice 8.2). Sometimes I am at odds with pitchfork's opinions but, with this review not only do they properly capture the music and provide journalistic insight, they also set the tone perfectly and do a damn good job of interpreting the lineage of the music in "Chains and Black Exhaust". Anyone into the scene of the 60's and 70's psyche and funk rock will love this. Guaranteed.

NEW LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - Bye, Bye Bayou (Alan Vega Cover)

Last week, LCD Soundsystem announced a new 12 inch single for Vinyl Saturday, which is a smaller scale Record Store Day (my personal favorite holiday). The single is a cover of an Alan Vega song. Alan Vega is 1/2 of the avant-garde pioneers Suicide. LCD Soundsystem frontman, James Murphy, references Suicide on their track "Losing My Edge" (see below for MP3). The song is classic LCD. It has a lot more of an elctro sound and features breathy vocals that remind me of the Sound of Silver opener "Get Innocuous!". Needless to say its a fantatsic song and their new album is easily my most anticipated release for next year.

A Little Introduction and Some Animal Collective

So along with Hunter I'm going to be posting here, not as frequently but im going to try and do as much as i can. I'll focus predominantly on indie rock and this first post is in honor of Animal Collective, one of my favorite bands. Just the other day they announced their new EP Fall Be Kind . This is a song from that EP which they've been playing live since the start of the tour for Merriweather Post Pavilion, its called "What Would I Want Sky". This was recorded for a British radio station, really good quality. Little fact about the song, it features a sample of the Greatful Dead song "Unbroken Chain" and it was the first ever cleared Dead sample. Phil Lesh apparently loved the track, which if you listen to, is understandable.

Fall Be Kind is due December 8th with a digital release expected next month on Domino

Minor Star Of Rome-The National

Here's a rarity from The National. It was released in 2006, the year in between their 3rd album (alligator-2005) and 4th album (boxer-2007). For obvious reasons it sounds like a middle ground between alligator and boxer; but it definitely shows the transition in sound from one album to another. A great song for any fan of a slow jam to listen on the way back home.

It's Gonna Take An Airplane-Destroyer

From one of the contributors that gave the new pornographers some of their best songs, Dan Bejar shows his talent and versatility as a musician in his own band destroyer. This is my favorite destroyer tracks, off of  the album "Your Blues". check it out

Deep Inside-Kid Beyond

Such a cool song on so many levels. The guy is a one man band. The only instruments he uses are a loop deck, a mic, and some of the most insane beatboxing ever. Should have been huge.

A solo project from the Strokes guitarist, Albert Hammond Jr. It's not new but is nonetheless a good song. Hope the Strokes 4th album is coming along well, very excited. Until the release ill just make due with all the side projects they made.

comparing what was and what is. Wouldnt You Like to Ride-Kanye West

a great old song from mr. west, prior to all his crazy BS that people just wont let go. this is to remind everyone what he once did and why we liked him. maybe he can get back there

Wouldn't You Like To Ride-Kanye West

The First Is Always The Hardest

first impressions make or break how people look at you. I'm going to try and avoid as much damage as possible and keep this post short while still getting the point through. what is the point of this blog? as of yet, nothing definite. recently a friend of mine kept bugging me for some of the music blogs i follow. i thought of this as a way to get him to shut up, but I've reconsidered what Im trying to do here and why. hopefully ill be able to introduce all sorts of music and what not to anyone who passes by and has got an open mind and willing to lend an ear. it's unfortunate but I've met both people at either ends of the music spectrum. both jaded indie/hipster purists and on the other end there's the 'if its not new i wont listen to it' crew have driven me to try and make something that anyone in between might like. (i am by all means not saying that my opinions don't have bias but i want to try and appeal to most all of the middle or undecided people and show that even in genres they hate their is something worth while and in types of music they already know there are some undiscovered diamonds in the rough)
and to end this beginning, a playlist
